Achieving a level of self-acceptance and confident after a long journey of trying to find out who you are as a person may not be the hardest part. Right now in society there are still issues of discrimination that exist for people who are just trying to be themselves. In Maryland, transgender people are currently not protected under statewide anti-discrimination laws. Currently, people are being fired, refused work, denied housing, education and they often suffer harassment or violence just because of who they are. (Maryland Equality 1) This is also the case in other states, and around the world. An idea that has been evolving is human flourishing. Human flourishing is when a person is doing what they are ought to do and what they want to. (McCormack 1) There are many different ways to achieve or began the process of human flourishing, the most discussed are the critical creative methods included in reflective dialogue, collaborative writing, poetic writing in a meditative space and speaking words from deep within us, with no attempt to follow a poetic form or style, and meditative walks and creative expressions, involving painting, and symbolic photographs. (McCormack 4) All of those methods were used in order to achieve human flourishing. Studies also describe another variety of categories that are integral to achieving human flourishing, which in the end encourages self-awareness and allows people to discover self-fulfillment in an easier way.
